Our Mission in Action: Cultivating Community

At the heart of our mission is a commitment to empower the people of Mitongwe, Malawi, and its surrounding areas by cultivating a community with God at its center. Through a wide variety of practical community programs and initiatives, we provide essential training designed to uplift local families and inspire Christ’s compassion in action. Central to this vision is our advanced horticulture training program, which equips individuals with modern farming techniques to successfully produce and care for vital fruit, vegetables, crops, trees, and medicinal plants.

Health and Wellness Centre

Our Health and Wellness Centre helps families stay ahead of sickness by combining practical teaching, organic medicines, and spiritual care. Through lively workshops, school programs, and our own herb farm, children and parents learn real‑life skills in hygiene, nutrition, disease prevention, and simple home‑garden practices while accessing safe, locally made remedies. With the encouragement of our trained counsellors, families grow in health, resilience, and confidence to thrive.

Baby Feeding Program

The Baby Feeding Program provides Lactogen for vulnerable infants and a protein‑rich porridge for undernourished toddlers so they can regain strength and grow well. Mothers also receive practical support through nutrition counselling, simple cooking classes, and home‑gardening training to help them prepare healthy meals long after the program ends. By graduation, families have the confidence and skills they need to keep their children nourished and thriving.

Early Childhood Development

Our Early Childhood Development program gives three‑ to five‑year‑olds a warm, playful, and structured start before they enter primary school. Each morning, the classroom comes alive with singing, stories, games, and simple learning activities that help children build confidence, social skills, and the early literacy and numeracy foundations they’ll need for the next stage of their education. The teachers focus on creating a safe, joyful space where little ones can explore, ask questions, and learn at their own pace.

Every child also receives a nutritious bowl of porridge each day, giving them the energy to learn, play, and grow well. These daily routines—steady learning, loving guidance, and a reliable meal—help children arrive in primary school ready to thrive, both academically and emotionally.

Youth Group

Our youth group—known with pride as Young Warriors—comes alive every Saturday morning. Long before the session starts, kids are already gathering, laughing, and racing toward the classroom because they know it’s one of the best parts of their week. Together they dive into Bible stories, worship songs, memory verses, and high‑energy games that help them learn about Jesus in a way that feels joyful and real. Our four enthusiastic leaders bring so much creativity, passion, and heart that the children stay fully engaged from the moment they arrive to the moment they leave.

The morning always ends with steaming bowls of hearty bean soup generously provided by Gleaners—a tradition the kids look forward to almost as much as the teaching and the fun. Young Warriors has become a vibrant, faith‑filled community where children are growing in character, confidence, and a deep sense of belonging.

Sports Ministry

Our Sports Ministry, run in partnership with Team Up Canada, has become a major highlight for boys and girls aged 10 to 16. Four days a week, kids stream in from all the surrounding villages because they know this is their chance to learn real soccer skills, be part of a team, and have leaders who genuinely care about them. Our two coaches are passionate, skilled, and absolutely love the game—their energy is contagious, and the kids feed off it. But the program is about far more than soccer. Alongside drills and matches, the youth receive practical training in life skills, English, farming, and other lessons that help shape their future. For many of these kids, school is the only other structured activity they have, so this ministry is a big deal—a place where they feel encouraged, supported, and given the chance to grow in every part of life.

Enviromental Club

Our Environmental Club has become something really special. After school and again on Saturdays, primary‑school children show up eager to learn how to grow a garden using simple agroforestry principles. They start by learning how soil works, how trees and crops support each other, and why caring for the land matters. Then they put it all into practice—planning their garden beds, preparing the soil, planting, watering, and celebrating every new leaf that appears. When the harvest comes, they share the produce, proud of what they’ve grown with their own hands. But what makes this group truly remarkable is how far their care extends. The children choose a local elder to support and spend time helping them plant trees and improve their home gardens. Watching these young ones serve their community with such joy and responsibility is inspiring. They’re not just learning how to grow food—they’re learning how to steward the land, honour their elders, and work together for the good of their village.
