September Highlights

It’s hard to believe how quickly summer flew by—now we’re settling into the cozy rhythms of fall. But over in Mitongwe, the seasons tell a different story: summer is just beginning, bringing scorching heat, dry winds, and not a drop of rain in sight.

Dan has already been on the ground for two weeks, diving into the work and reconnecting with the team. Irene will be joining him next week, and together they'll be continuing the momentum across the farm, training center, and ministry programs.

Growing Green at Mitongwe School

We’re thrilled to share that the Environmental Club at Mitongwe government school continues to grow—and it’s already making a big impact! Even during the school holidays, these dedicated students showed up week after week, tending to the gardens they helped create with care and pride. Guided by our team, they’ve been learning hands-on gardening skills, including how to use natural fertilizers and care for the soil. It’s more than just planting—it’s a journey into sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship.

A Visit Filled with Grace at Kasinje

In September, the Health and Wellness Team visited Kasinje Hospital and Health Clinic, an opportunity to build relationships, offer encouragement, and learn from one another. At the hospital, the team met mothers preparing to leave with their newborns—tiny, precious gifts from God. They took time to pray with each family, ask about the babies’ names and health, and share packages filled with clothes, soap, and a small cash gift. The mothers’ smiles and gratitude made God’s love feel tangible in that space.

As the visit came to a close, the team felt a gentle prompting from the Spirit to stop by the Outpatient Ward. It wasn’t part of the original plan, but ministry often unfolds in unexpected ways. Led by faith, they prayed with patients, trusting that God was meeting someone’s need through that moment of presence and care.

The team left Kasinje humbled and grateful, reminded once again that reflecting God’s love doesn’t always follow a schedule—it simply requires a willing heart and open hands.

Clothing Turned into Kindness

When a group from Holland recently visited Mitongwe, they left behind a donation of clothing. Instead of storing it away, the team chose to sell the items locally—raising funds to purchase food for some of the most vulnerable in nearby villages.

One of the women they visited was Melenia Yohane, born in 1940. Deep valleys have marked her life—she bore twelve children, all of whom have passed away, and lost her husband in 2006. Her home is fragile, and food is scarce, yet her faith remains unshaken. “God created me for a purpose,” she said softly, “even if I don’t always see it.”

The team prayed with her, shared the food items, and watched as hope lit up her eyes. It was a moment that reminded everyone present: even in hardship, God’s love finds a way to shine through.

A Youth Camp to Remember

Stand as One Ministry recently hosted a vibrant two-day youth camp for under-14 boys and girls, bringing together 16 girls, 22 boys, and 4 dedicated leaders. The camp was packed with energy and joy—from soccer games and big-screen match viewings to prayer times, shared meals, singing, and motivational talks.

The group also visited the Environmental Club gardens, where they learned about compost preparation and sustainable farming practices. For many of the children, this camp was filled with firsts: sleeping on a mattress, seeing solar lights at night, and experiencing a hot shower. The excitement was so overwhelming, some barely slept—they were too thrilled.

By the end of the camp, no one wanted to go home. The laughter, learning, and love they experienced made it clear: this wasn’t just a camp—it was a memory that will stay with them for years to come.

Solar Power, Thriving Gardens

Thanks to solar power, our water pump keeps the gardens well-irrigated—and the results are stunning. The steady flow doesn’t just water the plants; it helps them flourish. Everywhere you look, there’s vibrant green growth and abundant produce. Our programs continue to benefit from fresh, healthy crops grown right here in Mitongwe.

Everyday Moments at Mitongwe

It was another full and meaningful day in Mitongwe. After hearing that Winston and Edith weren’t feeling well, Dan stopped by with fresh vegetables and fruit. They shared a warm conversation, and when Dan mentioned the soccer program, Winston’s face lit up with excitement!
