March Updates
March marked the beginning of our time at Mitongwe in Malawi, and throughout the month, we’ve seen God’s hand at work in ways both big and small. Your generosity is part of His provision, strengthening families and moving each program forward with purpose. Here’s a look back at what God has been doing.
The Farm in Full Bloom
We’ve arrived at the farm, and it feels like stepping into a green explosion, everything bursting with life and God’s abundance. Fresh pineapple straight from the fields, guava and passion fruit hanging heavy on the branches, turmeric in full flower, sunflowers stretching toward the sky… everywhere we look, creation is shouting growth.
Throughout the month, we’re taking every opportunity to teach, mentor, and pour into our team. They continue to work faithfully, doing the hard daily tasks, like keeping pests at bay using natural remedies such as worm juice, jeevamruth, and other organic mixtures. It’s encouraging to watch them grow in skill, confidence, and stewardship.
Building Up the Team
Closing the Season with Thankful Hearts
March brought the close of our Senior Feeding Program for this season. For four months, we have walked with our elders, offering food every two weeks as they waited for their crops to mature. Now, by God’s grace, they are ready for their own harvest. At our final gathering, the seniors arrived with such gratitude, gifting us eight chickens, one from each village. Their generosity, given out of scarcity, humbled us deeply. We extend sincere thanks to all our donors who made this ministry possible.
Our Preschool continues to serve more than 60 children each day, and they never fail to brighten our mornings. They love greeting us in English and proudly showing off their counting, colours, and a whole collection of energetic songs. It’s such a joy to see them learning and growing.
Growing Our Hive Family
Swarm season has arrived, and we’ve begun setting out our bait hives, simple, bee‑friendly boxes that welcome wandering swarms. Soon, new colonies will find their way into our apiary, another reminder of God’s creativity and the life He brings to this land.
Growing in God’s Word Together
We continue to invest in our team through weekly Bible Study and discipleship. Dan is now leading his group through Book 3 of Equip to Serve, and the group have already memorized more than 25 Bible verses. Even more encouraging, they are consistently reading Scripture on their own each day. This month, I also launched Book 1 with a new group, and their enthusiasm has been contagious. They come eager to learn, ask questions, and grow in their faith.
Welcoming Doug Back to Mitongwe
We’re pleased to welcome back Doug Moore, a returning volunteer from Canada. This isn’t his first time at Mitongwe, and once again, he’s already proving to be an incredible blessing to our team. Doug will be with us throughout March, working closely with Dan on a full slate of projects around the farm. He’s leading a hardworking crew of up to 20 men, our own Mitongwe team, and together they’ll be tackling road maintenance, getting the water bladder up and running, building changerooms, and much more. His crew absolutely loves him as their “boss,” and they’re giving their best every single day.
Standing Ready When Needs Arise
While our team continues to work on the ground, we remain ready to respond when urgent needs come to our doorstep. Last week, we were visited by Frank, a father facing an unimaginable loss. His wife, who was full-term with twins, attempted to reach the clinic during heavy rain. After several failed attempts, she and Frank travelled more than 30 km by motorcycle. Tragically, she delivered along the way and passed away. Frank, 45, is now caring for seven children. His eldest daughter, just 18, will take on the responsibility of caring for the newborn twins, a boy and a girl.
Because of your generosity, we were able to step in immediately with formula and transportation support. In the midst of heartbreak, Frank expressed deep gratitude for this tangible hope.
We know we could not be here, or do the work God has placed before us, without your generous support, both financially and prayerfully. Thank you for believing in this mission and for walking alongside us. We remain committed to using every resource as wisely and responsibly as we can.
