500+ Smiles Under the Stars
The warmth of June has brought a vibrant energy to Mitongwe! As we look out across the land, we are witnessing the beautiful fruits of our labour, from the exciting milestone of our very first coffee harvest drying to the steady, joyful rhythm of our team preparing fresh moringa leaves. God is moving powerfully through every corner of this ministry, filling our hearts with immense gratitude for your faithful support. Thank you for 'Standing as One' with us and being a vital part of these incredible stories of hope and community transformation.
Over 500 smiles under the stars!
In June, our team visited a neighbouring village to share an evening of fellowship, gospel music, and an outdoor movie. For this community, it was the very first time they had ever seen a movie, and during setup, the excitement was contagious. Children and adults gathered close, curious and amazed, trying to understand how a whole film could appear on a simple screen in the middle of their village. Before the movie began, we spent time singing and praying together, creating a beautiful sense of unity and joy. Then we showed The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, a story that resonated deeply with many who watched.
The night became unforgettable as more than 500 people gathered to share the experience with us. Watching an entire village laugh and enjoy the film together was a powerful reminder of our purpose: to bring people together and strengthen communities of care.
The Dehydrator Never Sleeps
Our dehydrator hasn’t had a moment’s rest lately. Here, our team is busy preparing fresh moringa leaves; sorting, cleaning, and getting them ready for their turn in the dehydrator. The rhythm of the work is steady, almost joyful, as each batch brings us closer to nourishing more families in our community.
We’ve just celebrated a milestone on the farm, our very first coffee harvest. The beans are now spread out to dry with the help of our dehumidifier. We’re saving the seeds so we can plant even more in the seasons ahead. A small beginning, but an exciting new chapter for the farm.
A Heart for Service
We are blessed with some truly amazing volunteers. Meet Derco Methorst from the Netherlands—this is his 11th time serving with us at Mitongwe. Not only does he work incredibly hard, but he also mentors our team, teaches new skills, and models a strong work ethic every single day. Derco also takes the lead in all of our maintenance work, keeping the farm running smoothly behind the scenes. We are so grateful for his dedication and the heart he brings to our community.
Teaching the Next Generation
Our Health and Wellness Center has launched a new initiative, welcoming students from nearby schools for special learning visits. During these sessions, our team teaches practical lessons about health, hygiene, and healthy habits, giving young learners tools they can take home to their families and communities.
The children in our Primary 1 class are busy learning all about hand washing. It’s been such a joy watching them practise these healthy habits and understand why caring for their bodies matters.
A Sweet Reward for Our Spelling Stars
Do you remember our Spelling Bee at Mitongwe? Every week after school, our Library Program comes alive as students gather, twice a week, to practise their words, stretch their minds, and enjoy learning together. It’s become a place filled with laughter, determination, and the quiet confidence that grows when children discover what they’re capable of. This week felt extra special. As a reward for their hard work, our spellers were treated to a movie afternoon featuring Akeelah and the Bee. You should have seen their faces, wide‑eyed, inspired, and completely absorbed. Moments like this remind us that learning isn’t just about books and practice. It’s about joy, imagination, and giving children experiences that make them believe in their own potential.
