December Blessings: Love, Joy & Community
December Reflections
We’ve just arrived back home from Malawi, and our hearts are full as we think about our time at Mitongwe. It was such a joy to spend time with the community, see the projects in action, and celebrate all the wonderful progress that’s been made. So many amazing things happened while we were there, and we’re excited to share some of those stories with you in this update.
Official Opening Celebration
December was marked by a very special occasion: the official opening of our Health and Wellness Center. Although the center has been serving the community for some time, we wanted to celebrate its role formally. To honour the moment, we invited the local Traditional Authority and his headmen, respected leaders who guide many people in their districts. Their presence made the day even more meaningful. They expressed genuine appreciation for the work being done, offered us a warm welcome, and shared their encouragement for the center’s future. It was both a proud milestone and a joyful celebration for everyone involved.
Chili, Chili, and More Chili!
The buzz is real — demand for our organic bird’s eye chili is growing fast! We’re gearing up to plant thousands of new chili plants, and with an eager buyer already lined up, the future looks spicy and bright. This expansion means more jobs for the community, and even greater impact if local farmers join in by growing chili as a cash crop. It’s a win‑win: stronger livelihoods, thriving farms, and a product everyone wants.
Go Green with the Soccer Club
At Mitongwe Farm , we believe every tree tells a story of transformation. That’s why each soccer academy player has been given three trees to plant at their homes—Papaya for fruit, Moringa for health, and Gliricidia to enrich their soil. As part of their outreach, the boys will also receive extra trees to share with an elderly person in their community, extending care, dignity, and connection across generations. One tree at a time, Malawi is growing stronger.
A Big Assist from TEAM UP Canada!
Just like a perfect pass on the pitch, TEAM UP Canada has been assisting us for years — helping our Sports Program keep scoring big wins. Their ongoing support means the world to us, and we truly value the teamwork that makes all the difference!
Baby Feeding Program in Full Swing
Our new Baby Feeding Program is now fully underway, reaching the most vulnerable little ones in our community. We are caring for babies who have lost their mothers during childbirth, as well as those who simply aren’t getting enough to eat. Caregivers are being taught how to prepare formula, ensuring these infants receive the nutrition they need. We are also supporting mothers who are breastfeeding but struggling with their own nutrition. By providing food for these moms, we help strengthen them so their babies can benefit from breast milk first. Nurse Christabel has been at the heart of this effort — teaching, weighing babies, and guiding mothers with care and dedication. This program is already making a profound difference, and we are excited to see its impact grow.
Mitongwe’s Got Talent
During our final week, we hosted a lively afternoon of Mitongwe’s Got Talent — and wow, the talent was incredible! Each department was challenged to form a choir and compete for prizes, with awards for first, second, and third place. The competition quickly became fierce, and for weeks leading up to the event, you could hear groups practicing in the fields. Even our security guards joined in, forming an amazing men’s choir that impressed everyone.
With a fun MC, serious judges, and an enthusiastic audience, the atmosphere was electric. It was a joyful, laughter‑filled afternoon that brought the whole community together and was the perfect way to end the week — and our visit — on a high note.
Threads of Love
We were truly surprised when, at the end of the afternoon, our staff presented us with a very special gift. Over the past weeks, more than 100 staff have each contributed a small portion of their pay to purchase beautiful fabric. They then hired a tailor to create these wonderful clothes for us. Because they gave out of their little, the gift carried even greater meaning. It was a powerful reminder that we are united not only by our work, but also by faith, compassion, and shared purpose.
We want to wish you all a very Merry Christmasand extend our heartfelt thanks for your incredible support throughout the year — through donations, prayers, and words of encouragement. You have truly been a blessing to us.
Our Christmas Gift Guide is available if you’re still looking for meaningful gifts this season, and we would love for you to consider us in your year‑end giving. Together, we can continue to make a difference and share the joy of the season with those who need it most.
May your Christmas be filled with love, peace, and joy — and above all, the everlasting love of Christ. May His light guide your days and His grace surround your home this season and always.
With gratitude, Dan and Irene, and the Stand as One Ministry Board of Directors
