Camps, Graduations & 1 More “Move for Malawi”
Can you believe it's already the end of August, summer winding down and school just around the corner? While we've been soaking up these last warm days, Malawi has been on the opposite rhythm: they're just coming out of their winter months, with September marking the start of their hot, dry season. Temperatures there will climb steadily, peaking in November right before the rains finally arrive. And just like here, school is about to start back up too, mid-September, after a two-month break.
Climbing Toward Our Goal
It's been a busy season here in Canada with our Move for Malawi fundraiser! In August, we had an incredible weekend in Smithers, hiking together and sharing a BBQ with a wonderful community eager to join in kingdom work and bring hope and restoration to Mitongwe, all while receiving generous support along the way. Thanks to everyone who joined in, we're now close to halfway toward our $50,000 goal!
Lace Up — One More Move for Malawi!
We have one more event coming up on Saturday, September 5th, if you're in the area, we'd love for you to join us! Here's the plan: swing by the Crescent Park parking lot at 10 am for a fun walk around the loop. Once we've stretched our legs, we'll share a quick update on all the amazing things happening at Mitongwe, followed by lunch; on us! Want to get involved before the big day? You can register to fundraise, sponsor an athlete, or just show up Saturday and donate on the spot. Please email to let us know.
Two Groups, One Journey of Growing Faith
Dan and Irene have had the joy of walking alongside two groups of young people through the Equip to Serve Course, and this month brought two milestones worth celebrating. Our first group has grown enough to step into Book 4, a sign of real perseverance and hunger to keep growing. Our second group just completed Book 1, after five months of faithful, weekly meetings. Along the way, they memorized five Bible verses in English, a second language for them. That's discipline, dedication, and a genuine desire to hide God's Word in their hearts.
We are so proud of them.
For those unfamiliar, the Equip to Serve (ETS) series is a six-book discipleship program offered through organizations like Discipleship International. It builds foundational habits like daily quiet times, scripture memory, and sharing your faith, including tools like the Bridge Illustration. But beyond the curriculum, we're watching young hearts being shaped and their confidence grow as they learn what it means to walk with Jesus and share Him with others. Thank you for your prayers and support as this journey continues.
A Weekend They Didn't Want to End
In August, we hosted a youth camp for 46 amazing kids, and wow, what a weekend it was! Our theme, using the gifts that God has given us, came alive from the very first moment and stayed with the kids all weekend long. They sang their hearts out, danced with everything they had, and soaked up being prayed over by our team. There was so much joy in the air; you could feel it everywhere you turned.
And can we talk about the dorms for a second? Lights on, real mattresses to sleep on; for many of these kids, that's a total game changer. Honestly, it might have been the biggest hit of the entire camp! The excitement on their faces when they saw where they'd be sleeping said it all.
Beyond the fun and the comfort, though, something deeper was happening. Kids were discovering the unique gifts God placed in them, encouraging one another, and building friendships that will carry on long after camp ended. By the time the weekend wrapped up, nobody wanted to leave, and that, more than anything, is how you know it was a good one.
Thank you to everyone who made this camp possible through your prayers and support. Moments like these don't happen without a community like ours behind them!
Movie Night Under the Stars
There's nothing quite like movie night in the village! The moment our team sets up the screen, you can feel the excitement build as kids (and plenty of adults, too!) gather around, faces lit up, ready for the evening to begin. It's such a joyful, simple thing, but it means so much to the community. And beyond the fun, these evenings give us something even more special: a beautiful opportunity to share the gospel with everyone gathered together. It's amazing how a movie screen under the stars can open the door to something so meaningful.
From a YouTube Video to a Flight to Malawi
Check out this video that highlights how God makes things grow when we care for the soil in Malawi. It's already been watched more than 14,000 times on YouTube, and the story behind one of those views is incredible. A Malawian woman living in the UK saw the video, booked a flight, and flew all the way to Malawi to see the farm for herself. She was blown away by what she witnessed, so much so that she said, "This can't be Malawi." Now she's excited to take the training and start a similar project on land she owns in Malawi. This is exactly how we scale up!
Little Learners, Big Celebration
Last month, our little preschoolers officially graduated, and let us tell you, it was one joyful, adorable morning from start to finish! Picture it: proud little faces and a whole lot of wiggly excitement in the air. The kids proudly showed off everything they've learned this year, from counting and colours to songs and stories, along with something even more special: the love of God and so many Bible stories they'll carry with them for years to come. Each graduate took home a special gift to mark their big milestone, and there were more than a few happy tears from the grown-ups watching on!
It was clear these kids have grown so much, not just in what they know, but in who they're becoming. And here's the best part: none of this happens without amazing supporters like you cheering them on behind the scenes. Thank you for being part of their story!
Off They Go — See You in December!
It's that time again! Dan is officially Malawi-bound on September 9th, with Irene following a few weeks later (fashionably late, as always ). They've got a full plate of plans for their time there and are set to return mid-December. Please keep them in your prayers as they travel and dive back into the work ahead! Don't worry, you'll still get your monthly newsletter as usual.
