Agroforestry Training

Our Agroforestry Training has grown into a truly international program, bringing together expert trainers from Switzerland and Uganda and participants from across the globe. Twice a year, we host an intensive one‑week course that immerses learners in practical, sustainable agroforestry methods—everything from soil restoration and tree management to integrated farming systems. The week is hands‑on, demanding, and deeply inspiring. By the time participants return home, they are equipped not only to start their own sustainable agroforestry plots but also to train others in their communities. This ripple effect is helping restore land, improve food security, and empower leaders in countries around the world.

I recently completed the Agroforestry International Training, and it turned out to be far more than a course—it was a full immersion into a way of thinking and farming that left a deep impression on me. From the very first day, I was struck by the depth of knowledge within the Mitongwe team. Their understanding of agroforestry wasn’t just technical; it was lived, practiced, and woven into the rhythm of daily life on the farm.

Our mornings often began in the classroom, where we dug into theory, principles, and the “why” behind sustainable farming. But the real learning happened when we stepped outside. We spent hours in the fields discovering how to fertilize organically, how to work with the land instead of against it, and how simple, natural methods can restore soil and transform harvests. There’s something powerful about learning with your hands in the dirt—suddenly the lessons become real, memorable, and alive.

What made the week even richer was the group of participants who journeyed through it together. We came from different backgrounds, but we shared meals, asked questions, compared notes, and learned from each other’s experiences. By the end of the week, it felt less like a training and more like a small community built around curiosity, growth, and a shared desire to farm better.

It was an unforgettable experience—one that expanded my understanding and left me inspired by what’s possible when knowledge, passion, and community come together.
