Health and Wellness

Why Health and Wellness?

Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world which directly affects how much the country can spend on healthcare. The combination of HIV/AIDs, infectious disease, malnutrition, and limited access to health care puts all Malawians at extreme risk – but especially its youngest. Nearly 40% of children are stunted by malnutrition – a challenge felt across the country, but most intensely in rural areas where poverty is extreme and food supplies more limited. Almost one-quarter of all preventable child deaths are related to undernutrition.

Our Health and Wellness Program

Our vision is to provide care for the whole person – physically, spiritually, emotionally, and socially. To provide community care with community-driven solutions for health and well-being. We see a growing need for education and preventative practices to ensure improved and continued health among the local population. Our team is thrilled to announce that we are building a facility that will host our health programs. We have already started with the production of bricks and the site has been set. Our team is also working hard to develop a comprehensive curriculum that will cover various areas such as Eye care, Dental care, Nutritional Training, Health and Preventative measures, and Dispelling Health myths. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting project!

Days for Girls Program

We believe that every girl deserves to have a healthy, dignified and empowered menstrual experience. That's why we partner with a local Social Enterprise Program in Malawi to buy washable, reusable and beautiful pads that can last up to three years. These pads not only provide menstrual hygiene products for girls but also create income opportunities for men and women in the community. We also organize a workshop for the girls, led by an ambassador from Days for Girls, to teach them about their menstrual health and rights. We want to break the silence and stigma around menstruation and create a more equal and inclusive world for all.

In Memory

The world lost two remarkable individuals, a mother and a son, whose positive impact will be felt forever. Victoria fought a courageous battle with cancer, while Gabriel's life was tragically cut short in a car accident. Both Victoria and Gabe had a deep compassion for people, both locally and as humanitarians on missions in Malawi, Africa. Victoria had a soft spot for babies and frequently expressed her desire to take them home and shower them with love. Meanwhile, Gabe was passionate about his volunteer work at Nkhoma Hospital, where he was grateful for the opportunity to provide medical care to those in need. He dreamed of returning to Malawi as a doctor to continue offering care to the underprivileged.

Building Update:

The Health and Wellness Center is making significant progress in its construction. The foundation, structure, and roof have all been completed and now it's time to build the walls with bricks and cement. The clinic is located in a picturesque area surrounded by beautiful flamboyant trees and an orange orchard. We are eagerly anticipating the completion of the clinic within the next few months. Dan will be travelling to Malawi in October 2023 to hire and train the staff, which is a vital step in bringing the clinic to life. We are thrilled and eager to see the impact of the Health and Wellness Center in the next year.

We have shipped shelves and medical supplies in the container and it will be a huge boost in setting up the clinic. We have acquired all the windows and exterior doors and all that is left to purchase is the interior doors and a few more furniture items. Moreover, we will need uniforms for the staff and wages for the first year.
